Earthwork that holds up after it is buried

Demolition, excavation, and grading across the East Bay. We measure before we move material, locate before we dig, and haul away what we take out — so the trade that comes after us starts on ground they can trust.

Who you are hiring

The work you cannot see is the work worth paying for

Once the fill is placed and the surface is graded, nobody can tell whether the lifts were compacted or whether the trench had continuous fall. That is exactly why we run this company on habits rather than promises: shoot grade before moving material, locate before digging, and report what we find the day we find it.

It also means we do both halves of the job. We take things out — structures, slabs, pools, concrete, soil — and we put the ground into the shape the next phase needs. A teardown handed off to a separate grading contractor is a seam where responsibility gets lost, and we would rather not create one.

Most of our work now comes from general contractors who have used us before and homeowners referred by a neighbour. That is the only scorecard in this trade that means anything.

Why clients keep calling back

Six habits that keep projects from going backward

None of these are positioning. They are the specific practices that stop a schedule from slipping and a budget from moving.

We measure before we move material

Elevations get shot, depths get checked as we dig, and slopes get verified against your plan. Earthwork that is not measured is earthwork that gets redone.

Nothing gets dug before it is located

Every excavation starts with a USA North 811 ticket and hand verification near marks. It is the slow way, and it is why we have not turned a dig into a utility repair.

One crew from teardown to grade

The team that drops the structure loads the debris and shapes the pad. No waiting on a second contractor, no arguments about who left what behind.

Equipment sized to your access

Compact machines reach backyards through standard gates. You should not be paying to remove fencing so an oversized excavator can get to the work.

The site is part of the deliverable

Nails raked, rebar pulled, spoil hauled, street swept. What we leave behind is what the next trade has to start on.

Conditions reported when we find them

Rock, groundwater, buried debris, undocumented fill — documented with photos and priced before extra work happens, never after.

How a job runs

Five steps, in this order, every time

No estimate happens over the phone alone, and no extra work happens before you have approved it in writing.

  1. Site visit and measurement

We walk the property with you, measure what matters, check access and pinch points, and identify what stays. No estimate happens over the phone alone.

  2. Written estimate

You get a fixed price with the scope spelled out and the assumptions it rests on — what is included, what is not, and what would change the number.

  3. Permits and locating

We tell you which permits and disconnects your address requires, place the 811 ticket, and schedule around the inspections that gate the work.

  4. Execution

Protection goes in, the work is sequenced so machine traffic stays on solid ground, and material is sorted as it comes out to keep disposal costs down.

  5. Cleanout and walk-through

Debris hauled, subgrade graded and compacted, site swept, and a final walk with you before the equipment leaves the property.

Service area

Working within 20 miles of San Pablo

The radius is deliberate. It keeps our equipment close, our response times short, and our knowledge of local soil, inspectors, and disposal facilities specific rather than general.

San Pablo

Our home base. Same-day site visits, and equipment that is already in the neighborhood when you call.

Richmond

Older housing stock and industrial parcels: garage teardowns, slab removal, and drainage correction on lots built long before current codes.

El Cerrito

Hillside lots with tight side-yard access, where compact machines and careful staging decide whether a project is even feasible.

El Sobrante

Unincorporated county parcels with room to work — pads, access roads, and grading on larger properties.

Pinole

Fence lines, patio slabs, and yard regrades on the tract neighborhoods above Interstate 80.

Hercules

Newer subdivisions where drainage between closely spaced homes is the recurring problem we are asked to solve.

Albany

Small lots and narrow driveways. Nearly every job here is a question of access before it is a question of scope.

Berkeley

Backyard excavation, foundation digs, and pool removals reached through standard gates with compact equipment.

What clients say about the handoff

Common questions

Before you call

Twenty-two more answers, sorted by topic, are on the FAQ page.

We give ranges over the phone and firm numbers after a site visit. Earthwork pricing depends on access, soil, thickness, and haul distance, and none of those can be assessed reliably from a description. The visit is free and usually takes under half an hour.

About twenty miles from San Pablo, which covers Richmond, El Cerrito, Pinole, Hercules, El Sobrante, Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland, Orinda, and Vallejo. Larger projects further out are worth a phone call — the radius is about efficiency, not a hard boundary.

Yes. We carry the insurance appropriate to demolition and excavation work, and a certificate can be issued to you or your general contractor before we mobilize. Ask for it — it is a reasonable thing to require of anyone bringing a machine onto your property.

We tell you precisely which permits, disconnects, and inspections your address and scope require, and we schedule the work around them. Property owners typically pull residential permits themselves or through their general contractor, and we coordinate directly with your city inspector once the work is underway.

Regularly. Demolition, excavation, trenching, and grading are the earthwork phases most GCs subcontract, and we are comfortable working to a plan set, a schedule, and an inspection calendar we did not create. Insurance documentation and lien releases are routine on our side.
